Polish Space Agency Signs Cooperation Memorandum with Taiwan’s National Space Center

During the Taiwan Space International Annual Conference held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Michał Wierciński, Vice President of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), announced the signing of the first-ever memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Taiwan’s National Space Center (TASA). This document establishes a framework for collaboration between Poland and Taiwan, enabling closer cooperation between enterprises and academic institutions from both countries.

Marcin Sarnowski, representing SpaceForest, is also attending the conference, showcasing innovative solutions in rocket technologies and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems. These technologies have garnered significant interest from conference participants. Marcin will be available until Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the “Poland Pavilion 515,” organized by POLSA.

Poland on the Global Space Stage

At the conference, the Poland Pavilion, coordinated by the Taiwan-Poland Chamber of Commerce (TAIPO), highlighted the capabilities of Polish companies in satellite systems, manufacturing, launch services, and satellite technology. Wierciński emphasized that Poland, having joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2012, is a relatively new player in the space industry. Currently, around 70 Polish space companies, mostly small and medium enterprises, are characterized by dynamic innovation and adaptability.

Taiwan as a Strategic Partner Beyond Europe

Wierciński pointed out that the European space market is highly saturated, making it challenging for emerging Polish firms to compete with established giants like France and Germany. Therefore, Poland seeks to expand its cooperation outside Europe, with Taiwan being a key partner.

The MOU with TASA marks a significant first step toward joint projects, particularly in fields like telecommunications technologies, Earth observation, cloud data services, and satellite technologies. POLSA is committed to supporting Polish companies in building connections with Taiwanese counterparts.

Opportunities for Collaboration and Mutual Benefits

Taiwan’s advanced satellite manufacturing technologies and ongoing rocket development projects present promising collaboration opportunities. Wierciński highlighted the potential for both countries to learn from each other—Poland bringing its expertise in the European space ecosystem, and Taiwan offering cutting-edge technological approaches. Joint efforts are expected to foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and a mutually beneficial partnership.

Showcases like SpaceForest’s presentations, backed by POLSA, underscore the potential of Poland’s space sector and its readiness to collaborate on a global scale.
